Hamsters, according to two recent surveys, are the second most popular rodent pets in the UK after guinea pigs. There are several different species kept as pets, with Syrian hamsters most commonly presenting to veterinary practice. The aim of this session is to help improve attendee understanding and confidence in providing veterinary care to these cheek-pouched rodents. This presentation will talk through appropriate husbandry, key anatomy and physiology information, handling, clinical techniques and hospitalisation, analgesic and antimicrobial options, and common presenting complaints.
