Working Challenging Behaviour Cases in a Dog Centred Way: Andrew Hale revisits the Safety First Protocol and emotional experience lens to explore how we can support even the most challenging cases in a dog centred way. Using practical examples, case studies, and videos of techniques in action, Andrew will demonstrate how we can support dogs beyond traditional methods. Emphasising intrinsic physical, emotional, and social safety, he will outline the Learn, Support, Teach approach: Learn from the dog first, support what we’ve learned from them and teach what’s valuable to them and for their version of safety. The main case study features a 6-year-old Estrella Mountain Dog rescued from Spain, after five years tied up or in a pen, two years without human contact and a bite history. With video and photos following the dog’s journey to safety. Andrew will demonstrate a trauma-informed approach, allowing the dog to set the pace and conditions of his own recovery.
